About
Rust commenced trading in October 2007. The original store was located in the rear of the Avalon cinema arcade. A space that had been vacant since it was developed and considered my many as a “white elephant”.
Rust owners Michael and Elizabeth Browning had other ideas, they had a concept which they were determined to put into action.
The name Rust was influenced by Neil Young’s ‘Rust Never Sleeps” a concept that embodied all that the vision stood for.
Michael’s passion for this venture was born during his previous occupation as the manager of internationally touring rock bands including AC/DC.
He is author of his memoir “Dog Eat Dog”, a story of Survival, Struggle and Triumph By the Man who Put AC/DC on the World Stage (published by Allen & Unwin).
As he toured the world he would develop another fascination. One involving a feast of architecture and interiors housed in exotic locations that would become his overwhelming passion.
After his retirement from the music business, along with his wife Elizabeth, Rust became a concept waiting to happen.
Michael remains the buyer of furniture pieces and continues to scour the world filling containers with the pieces he falls in love with.
Elizabeth has become a highly skilled buyer with a great eye, of the homewares, gifts, fashion and jewellery.
